I found Eira to be a realistic character who is buried under her brother’s strong presence, her mysterious power which tells her dangerous secrets and a dark past that continues to haunt her – but she is determined to follow her dream – to visit the continent Meru. And for that dream, she decides to enter in the ‘Tournament of Five Kingdoms’ – a championship of sorcerers from all five kingdoms.
It ties in beautifully with all the other books set in the world of Air Awakens, while you don’t have to read those, it is recommended to as you’ll meet so many familiar faces in this one!
